It’s the perfect time of year to take a slow, meaningful drive further into the Great Karoo. Although it was semi-overcast and the flowers were not at their best for photography, they were still beautiful enough to appreciate on the day.
We took a drive to Merweville for lunch at Die Boekklub. A favourite with us. We always enjoy that drive and the time together for long conversations on every subject.
Die Beokklub was featured in a South African TV series of the same name some years back. It is a quaint little coffee shop that offers a great burger. We're extremely boring, and eat the same thing every time we visit, as we know it's always good. What is especially good for me, is that Beau the Frenchie is always welcome. I don't go anywhere without my Beau.
Merweville is a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere. There are very few full-time residents, and the rest are the local farmers.
The church, of course, stands proud, and then there is what is called the Mall, for groceries, a very good butcher shop, and one or two other little shops scattered around town for bits and bobs.
Merweville now has someone doing aquaponics and they are supplying delicious lettuce to the Mall and even to the Spar in Prince Albert. It is supplied with the roots still intact, and this allows the produce to last a whole lot longer than just the leaves in a bag. Lettuce grown in Prince Albert tends to be bitter due to the soil, so this is a really good find for us.
