SWARTBERG MUSIC SALON
SWARTBERG MUSIC SALON 2 – 4 AUGUSTUS.
The Swartberg
Music Salon (SMS) is a new initiative run in collaboration with the Prince
Albert Community Trust (PACT) and the ARCO Project, a music
programme for Early Child Development and string teaching. The Artistic
Committee is Louise Lansdown, Elna van der Merwe and Anthony Alcock, with Leone
Pitts as project manager. This new and unique chamber music festival will take
place from 2 – 4 August and is yet another unique and Karoo-centric festival to
be held in Prince Albert, complementing the hugely successful Journey to
Jazz which was first held in 2023 (also a PACT initiative).
The
festival’s performances will headline some of South Africa’s most highly
regarded musicians including violinists Zanta Hofmeyr and Samson Diamond,
violists Louise Lansdown and Jeanne-Louise Moolman, cellist Susan Mouton,
pianist Elna van der Merwe, and UK double bassist Anthony Alcock. South of Bear
including violists Emile de Roubaix, Jan Hendrik-Harley and double bassist
Mariechen Meyer will also be featured, as well as the magnificent opera singer
Lynelle Kenned.
SMS hopes to be held annually and attract people
from across the country to Prince Albert showcasing its rich musical heritage,
initiatives and musical talent. It will be a celebration of chamber music,
filled with inspiring Karoo-inspired concerts held in venues across Prince
Albert. The streets and homes of Prince Albert will be ringing with the
sound of music for these four days!
