LOCAL ROOTS - farm to table

Located on the main road, close to Gay's dairy, Local Roots is Prince Albert's newest coffee shop and day restaurant.  It's a family affair comprising sisters Madri and Orscilla, and sister-in-law Bianca.  Their familial roots are firmly entrenched in Prince Albert, with the sixth generation growing up on the farm.  Some years back, at the same location as Local Roots, was a farm stall called Sampei se Plaas Winkel, which belonged to Madri and Orscilla's mother.

The sisters and their mum have been cooking, baking, catering and flower arranging for large functions and weddings for many years, while the men are farmers.  Much of their fresh produce comes from the farm. One is spoilt for choice with a table full of homemade cakes and pastries. They also make a large range of preserves, and package dried fruit and nuts.

Local Roots offers a small but delicious menu for breakfast and lunch.  They also have a wide variety of things to take away, eg pies, and quiches.  They will soon be licenced to serve liquor.

There is the option to sit indoors, on the enclosed verandah with an open fire and large gas heater, or outdoors in the garden that overlooks a pretty dam in Summer.

They are open from 08:00 to 16:00 Monday to Saturday.
